Unity Game Design

Project Overview

This project explores the idea of a small interactive dream space built in Unity.
The environment is a floating island located in outer space, where the player can explore and interact with different objects.

The goal of the experience is to collect magical stars scattered across the island. After collecting all the stars, a rainbow gate appears as the final destination. The project focuses on simple environmental storytelling, playful interactions, and the use of physics to create a dynamic and surprising experience.

Concept & World Design

The concept of this project is a peaceful but mysterious floating island in space.
The environment combines fantasy elements with a cosmic background to create a dream-like atmosphere.

The island contains several symbolic elements:

  • Stars represent goals and progress.

  • Clouds act as playful movement platforms.

  • A crystal introduces an unexpected interaction.

  • The rainbow gate represents the final reward.

The dark starry sky background enhances the sense of isolation and wonder, making the floating island feel like a magical place suspended in the universe.

Environment Design

The scene is built using simple geometric objects to create a stylized environment.
Despite the simplicity of the shapes, the arrangement of objects helps define the space and guide player movement.

Key environmental elements include:

  • A floating island that serves as the main exploration area.

  • A small house and trees that make the island feel more like a livable place.

  • Floating clouds positioned around the island to encourage vertical movement.

  • Decorative objects placed throughout the scene to enrich the visual environment without blocking player navigation.

The space is intentionally designed to be open and playful, allowing the player to freely move around and discover interactions.

Interaction Design

Star Collection

Stars are collectible objects scattered around the island.
When the player touches a star:

  • The star disappears

  • The star counter increases

  • The player receives visual feedback

The collection system encourages the player to explore the environment and interact with different areas of the island.

Crystal Interaction

The crystal acts as a special trigger object.
When the player touches the crystal, it launches the player upward into space.

This interaction creates an unexpected and humorous moment in the gameplay experience, breaking the player's expectations and adding a playful element to the environment.

Cloud Interaction

Clouds function as bouncing platforms.
When the player lands on a cloud, a physics material with high bounciness launches the player upward.

This mechanic introduces vertical exploration and playful movement within the environment.

Rainbow Gate

The rainbow gate acts as the final objective of the experience.

Once all stars are collected:

  • The rainbow gate appears

  • Particle effects activate

  • A victory sound plays

  • A message appears on the screen

When the player enters the gate, the experience concludes with a reward moment that acknowledges the player’s progress.

Outcome

Player Experience

The player experience is designed to feel playful and exploratory.

Players begin on the floating island and gradually explore the environment while searching for stars. Clouds encourage jumping and movement through vertical space.

The crystal introduces an unexpected interaction that can launch the player into space, creating a surprising moment in the gameplay.

As the player collects more stars, they move closer to unlocking the final objective. When the rainbow gate appears, the visual and audio feedback provides a sense of completion and reward.
